Remember summer vacations when you were a kid? I certainly do. Three months without school when all you had to think about was swimming, baseball, and maybe a brief reading list to help get you ready for the fall term.

I hate to admit it, but those days are long gone. And while I can’t offer up sun drenched afternoons poolside, I can lighten your summer reading. FormFast has abbreviated its summer issue of InFormFast. Instead of one regular-sized issue, we’re sending you two shortened versions. We’ve kept the key information, but we’ve eliminated all the things you probably don’t want to think about until after Labor Day.

So relax, be sure to stock up on SPF 24… and enjoy a mini-read about the latest advances in forms automation. Now, where’s my schedule for home games?

Rob Harding, President
FormFast, Inc.

The latest regulations from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)—which went into effect in April 2003—sent healthcare providers scrambling to put systems in place that would ensure compliance while also affording maximum efficiency. It’s a high-stakes situation…made even more complicated by the electronic document technology that facilities are adopting at an ever-increasing pace.

The process of complying with HIPAA regulations requires four steps, according to Rob Harding, CEO of FormFast, Inc. "Providers must assess their situations, devise a strategy to correct any gaps between current practice and HIPAA regulations, implement those remedies, and come out the other end of this process with more secure document management."

As providers move toward the electronic medical record (EMR), supporting HIPAA’s security regulations takes on even more importance. It will require that providers adopt software solutions that allow for enhanced efficacy in sharing current patient information, while also ensuring that only those people who need to see the information have access to it. FormFast has a new product in development that will incorporate these audit and exchange mechanisms. It will enable the secure internal and external exchange of patient information, while also providing mechanisms that both limit and track who has access to that information.

"Our new software will help providers in their movement toward EMR while also allowing all appropriate sources (physicians, insurers, staff) secure access to that information," adds Harding.

FormFast’s software solution will serve as a gatekeeper, screening who has access to given information. It will also track all contacts with this data for reporting, and offers several other important e-record features. Like other FormFast products, this software is compatible with a variety of servers and systems.
